National Football League News Wire

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions on Wednesday signed unrestricted free agent Tyoka Jackson to a two-year deal and re-signed restricted free agents Casey FitzSimmons and Cory Redding to one-year deals.

Jackson joins the Lions after 11 seasons in the NFL. He played defensive end and tackle for the St. Louis in 2001-05 and worked under new Lions coach Rod Marinelli, who was Jackson's position coach at Tampa Bay from 1996-2000.

Last season, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound Jackson played in all 16 games and had 30 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He set single-season career-highs during the 2003 season with 45 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

FitzSimmons, a tight end, began his NFL career with Detroit in 2003. He played in 14 games last season and had 10 receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. He also had a career-high 19 tackles on special teams last year.

Redding, a defensive end, has played three seasons with the Lions. He started in all 16 games last year and set a career-high with 42 tackles.

if they got signed by a team then it is worth a thread. Brady could have been considered a "garbage" pick and look at him now. Or what about KBG, he was drafted in the sixth round and is now one of the best ends in the NFL. Sometime the "garbage" pickups turn out to make the biggest impact.

i would tend to agree that 2 of those guys may be garbage, but for the lions to sign a need to add good depth to a much underated D-line is hardly garbage. Jackson played very well for marinelli in tampa and this is very good signing for the lions.

I have to believe Fitzsimmons is a depth re-sign. Now that we have Pollard and Campbell.
