The Lions have taken an important step in achieving stability on their offensive line by locking up tackle Jeff Backus, one of the team's most reliable players.
The Lions and Backus beat an important negotiating deadline by one day when Backus agreed to terms on a six-year contract Thursday. Full financial terms were not immediately available, but the deal is worth $15.5 million in guaranteed money in the form of a signing bonus and other financial sources.
