Lions | M. Williams fined more than $400,000 in 2005
Wed, 19 Jul 2006 21:51:37 -0700

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions WR Mike Williams was fined more than $400,000 last year, according to a source close to the situation. Williams was fined for violating team rules, mostly for arriving late to meetings and being overweight. According to the terms of the CBA, the team could impose a maximum penalty of $457 per pound per day that Williams was overweight and could fine a player $9,300 each time he was late for a meeting. Those fines could then be doubled or tripled for repeat violations. It is unknown how many times those fines were used against Williams. Since fines are imposed after taxes, Williams had to earn more than $600,000 to pay them. With his salary last season at $230,000 and his salary in 2006 at $350,000, he is playing for free in his first two seasons if you don't count bonus money. This year, the fines have been increased to $582 per pound per day and $11,000 for being late to a meeting.

I don't think so!

I wonder if all thes problems stem from sitting out a year and getting lazy, or If he behaved like this at USC.

Yah, they are stuck with him, but Rod doesn't have to play him. Can stuff him vown at the 6th sopt on the depth chart. He got a little fortune with his draft slot signing bonus......but what kind of a Contract would he get in a few years after playing sparingly for 3 or 4 years???

losing weight doesn't get rid of his atitude. Even if he is a great player it may be better for the team to go with ABuccs idea.

the answer is no, he won't stand for it, my guess though is with a tough leader like rod in house, williams will shape up.
