By now, you've all heard that the Lions opted to fire head coach Steve Mariucci this week, mainly after the 27-7 loss to Atlanta on Thanksgiving. What are your feelings on this? I think it's pretty bad to name a new coach more than halfway through a losing season, they should at least have waited until the end of it, but interim coach Dick Jauron does have some experience, he was formerly head coach for the Bears. Maybe it will work out, but I really doubt it.

i agree with you that changeing coaches before the season ends is a terrible move. and can you really blam Mariucci? how can he have success when his starting QB sucks.

Hopefully GB are the smart opportunists they've usually been, and they fire Sherman and replace him with Mariucci. Brett Favre does not suck (How did Harrington ever become a starter in the first place??), and it would be a good pairing, possibly good enough to once again put us on top of the North.

I really don't think Marriuici should have been fired, as he tried his best with what he was given, which frankly wasn't much. I don't see how it was that the GM was not fired first, or at least at the same time as Marriuici. The GM is the one responsible for bringing in the quarterbacks. He is also the one responsible for taking Mike Williams with their first round pick, when they already had an abundance of wide receivers, and had other gaping holes on defense. Not only did he pick for skill over need, but Mike Williams is having a subpar year, making you totally question the pick.

I think the only reason it was done now is so that Matt Millen can have someone else take the blame and he might be able to keep his job. The longer it would have gone on and Matt did not do anything more and more people would start thinking he was part of the problem and not part of the solution.

You're absolutely right, but it's stupid to take it out on Mariucci. He was one of the few good things the team still had.
