The Carolina Panthers have signed fifth-round draft choice (155th overall) Jeff King from Virginia Tech, the team announced Wednesday.
A 6-3, 253-pound tight end, King played in 53 games with 28 starts for the Hokies and totaled 58 catches for 724 yards and 11 touchdowns, a school record for a tight end. An All-ACC second-team choice as a senior in 2005, he posted a career-high 26 receptions for 292 yards and six touchdowns and became the first player in school history to catch a touchdown pass in four consecutive games.
King becomes the first of the Panthers eight draft choices to sign.
