As promised, the Lions began training camp with a bang Friday.

After individual drills, coach Rod Marinelli walked up to president Matt Millen and said: “We’re going to play some football. Right now.”

Marinelli and Millen marched down the field. A group of players followed.

“Time to thump, baby!” defensive lineman Cory Redding said. “Time to thump.”

Marinelli called his players together, and at the center of the circle, using some colorful, loud language, he told them this was where they would start defining themselves.

Then the Lions started hitting. The offensive and defensive lines squared off, as running back Kevin Jones took handoffs from quarterback Jon Kitna.

NOTEBOOK: Safety Daniel Bullocks, the Lions’ second-round pick, agreed to a four-year contract late Thursday night and was expected to sign in time for the morning practice. He didn’t make it, but Marinelli said he hoped to have him for the afternoon practice. The only Lions draft pick who remains unsigned is first-round pick Ernie Sims. …

Marinelli said wide receiver Mike Williams was a little overweight. He said Charles Rogers was the No. 2 receiver.

If Mike Williams isnt the 2 IMO he automatically goes to the 4. You cant have him in the slot.

C Rogers has always impressed me... when his collar bone wasn't getting snapped like a wishbone after Thanksgiving dinner.

So is Terrance Holt and Daniel Bullocks starting? If so, they have a nice safety duo

Undersized to play the slot??? Your usual slot WR will be a smaller WR who has quickness and speed, such as Az Hakim, the Moss brothers etc...

Vines is a bigger style WR
