Lions re-sign receiver Bradford

Mike O'Hara The Detroit News

ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions merry-go-round spun in reverse Thursday as the team re-signed wide receiver Corey Bradford. Bradford started the opening game of the season and caught three passes but was released after the third game without catching another pass.

To make room on the roster, the Lions released wide receiver Kevin Kasper. Kasper was signed two weeks ago and played in two games without catching a pass.[/b]

This is just retarded. None of this cut/sign a new WR every week makes any sense at all

The Lions' receiver-go-round continued Thursday. They released Kevin Kasper and re-signed Corey Bradford -- whom they cut earlier this season even though it meant they would have to pay him almost $1 million per game.

The moves comes a week after offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he was pleased with Kasper and Devale Ellis at the third receiver spot.

"I think we've resolved the issue," Martz said last Thursday. "I really do."

But I thought Kasper was PRACTICING so well! He showed such tremendous heart in PRACTICE! Regardless of how he actually performed in a game, the kid was PRACTICING like a pro-bowler! This makes no sense!

This coaching staff needs to realize that trying to get these undrafted WRs to play like stars just because they work hard isn't going to work. They're losing all credibility with their "We're just putting out the lineup that gives us the best chance to win" line by playing players who shouldn't even be in the league...

The point is...play BFMW! I don't give a **** how lazy he is at practice, I don't care if he doesn't put his heart into running laps, it doesn't even bother me if the ******* takes practice plays off. He's got SOME chops and its not like the players will stop believing in this coaching staff if he gets to play (despite what talk radio may be saying). I mean, has Marinelli's drill sergeant schtick really even improved these guys' fundamentals? They're still inconsistent, they still fall apart at the end of games, they still can't tackle, they still miss easy block. The players will believe in the coaching staff when they start winning, not when they feel that their hard work is being justly rewarded. In case you haven't noticed, our 'dynamic' offense falls apart in the red zone. Maybe, just maybe, Williams will live up to SOME of his potential as a big red zone target.

We've won two games so far...what have we got to lose?

I am really getting tired of this merry-go-round of WR's. Can't Martz make up his mind. Maybe I am just so frustrated like we all are. I hope they get it settled soon. I still do not know why in the *&%^
they just try BMW and see if he can play. What will it hurt?

This just came in...

Quote:
McCown could play receiver

Quarterback Josh McCown could play some receiver in the upcoming weeks, but offensive coordinator Mike Martz said the team would be smart about it and not send him on crossing patterns over the middle and will try to keep him out of harm's way if at all possible.

That means that McCown, who has been catching passes with the receivers for several weeks, would likely be a fourth receiver and run deep routes in obvious passing situations. McCown has good speed, great leaping ability and good hands.

And, yes, this means that Mike Williams has now dropped below a quarterback on the receiver depth chart.[/b]
