LIONS HOT TOPICS: Can you have a hangover from a heartbreaking loss?
December 16, 2007
Hangover effect?
The Lions showed heart last Sunday, only to have it broken by a late Dallas touchdown and a 28-27 loss. Coach Rod Marinelli said he expected another good effort today, based on practice. But you have to wonder if the Lions will be like the Ravens, who fought hard and lost a heartbreaker to New England, then looked awful the next game against Indianapolis.
Not over yet
The Lions have blown their best chance at the playoffs, but they are still in the picture. If they can upset San Diego today, they will be 7-7 and coming home to face struggling Kansas City. If they win that one, that could set up a meaningful finale at Green Bay. "We know we're a good football team," Marinelli said, "and we still have time to prove it."
No history
The Lions have never won at San Diego. They haven't beaten the Chargers since the 1970s. But it isn't quite as bad as it sounds. The teams have played only three times in San Diego and only five times since 1981.
