PROMOTED: Lions elevate former assistant special teams coach Sam Gash to RBs coach

Sam Gash has been hired as the Lions' running backs coach, the team announced Thursday.

Gash was the Lions' assistant special teams coach in 2007. He replaces Wilbert Montgomery, who left to become Baltimore's running backs coach.

Before coming to Detroit, Gash was the New York Jets' assistant running backs coach and assistant special teams coach in 2005-06.

During a 12-year NFL career as a fullback, Gash went to two Pro Bowls. He spent 2000-02 in Baltimore while current Lions offensive coordinator Jim Colletto was the Ravens' offensive line coach.
