ALLEN PARK -- Al Wilson, a free-agent middle linebacker who was released by the Broncos last year and sat out the 2007 season, visited the Lions on Tuesday.
Wilson, 30, was known for his speed. The Broncos drafted him in the first round out of Tennessee in 1999, and he proved to be a durable and productive player. Wilson missed three games from 1999-2006. He had 21 1/2 sacks and 31 pass breakups.
Wilson was voted to the AFC Pro Bowl team four times. His visit was confirmed by Lions representative Bill Keenist.
The Lions have targeted linebacker as a position they want to upgrade. The free-agent signing period begins Feb. 29. The draft is April 26-27.
