Lions signed FS Dwight Smith, formerly of the Vikings, to a two-year, $5 million contract. The deal includes a $350,000 signing bonus.
Unless Gerald Alexander kicks to corner, which seems possible now, Kenoy Kennedy won't be back in Detroit. The Vikings struggled against the pass in 2007, but Smith made plays, picking off four passes and batting down nine. He knows Rod Marinelli's scheme well and will likely start at free safety.
