ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed restricted free agents G Stephen Peterman, QB Dan Orlovsky and DT Langston Moore to one-year deals. Additional contract terms were not disclosed..
Peterman (6-4, 323) is entering his fourth NFL season, his third with the Lions. He had his best season in 2007, playing and starting in 13 games. Peterman was inserted into the starting lineup at right guard in Week 4 due to injuries and played himself into a full-time starting role.
Originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft, Peterman missed his rookie season after a knee injury in the final preseason game. He played in three games for Dallas in 2005, mostly on special teams. Peterman was signed to the Lions practice squad October 17, 2006 and then to the active roster December 13. He played in each of Detroit’s final three games, the last two as a starter.
Peterman was an All-American and All-SEC first team selection as a senior at Louisiana State. He was a team leader and anchor of an offensive line that helped the Tigers win the SEC title and capture the 2003 national title. Orlovsky (6-5, 230) returns to Detroit for his fourth season after being selected by the Lions in the fifth-round (145th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. He spent last season as the team’s third quarterback after suffering a toe injury in the second preseason game at Cleveland. Orlovsky had played well in the first preseason game against Cincinnati, passing for 220 yards and two touchdowns while completing 15-of-23 (107.2 QB rating). His two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter brought Detroit from behind for a 27-26 victory.
As a collegian, Orlovsky set school career passing records for completions (916), attempts (1,567), yards (10,706) and touchdown passes (84). He was named Connecticut player of the year by the New Haven Register in addition to garnering all-state honors at Shelton (CT) High School.
Moore (6-1, 305) will be back with the Lions for another season after consistently contributing along the defensive line for Detroit in 2007. He played in all 16 games last season and set a career-high with 2.0 sacks (14 yards) and had 37 tackles (21 solo). Moore entered the NFL in 2003 as a sixth round draft choice (174th overall) for Cincinnati.
As a rookie for the Bengals, Moore spent most of the season on the practice squad. He returned for the 2004 season to play in 15 games (eight starts) and established career-highs with 41 tackles (22 solo) and added 1.0 sack (6 yards). Moore spent most of the 2005 and 2006 seasons with Arizona before coming to Detroit at the end of the 2006 season (December 18).
Moore was a standout defensive tackle at South Carolina where he played in 46 games (32 starts) from 1999-2002 and had 137 tackles (93 solo), 6.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception. He’s a native of Charleston (S.C.) where he attended James Island H.S.
