Stanton facing tough battle in Detroit
Quote:
Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press: reports The difference between Matthew Stafford and Drew Stanton isn't merely the size of their contracts, but also the dimensions of their quarterbacking skill set.
The more natural drop-back-passing Stafford zipped a throw on an out pattern during a minicamp practice that hit his receiver in perfect stride. The hybrid Stanton lofted a similar toss that would have been a quail hunter's delight.
Stanton stayed on the practice field long after practically everyone else left, working on his five-step-drop throwing rhythm. But it's little more than a futile attempt at turning an ad-lib playmaker into a programmed pocket passer.
There is some stability in Stanton's immediate future. He will marry his high school sweetheart from Farmington Hills Harrison on Saturday.
If the Lions were looking for the proper wedding gift, they should wrap a bow around his release. Give him the chance of finding a more durable, more comfortable learning environment. Stanton, simply put, has no chance with the Lions.
