Kamau Peterson Named CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian
Kamau Peterson was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian at the 2008 Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards on Thursday night at the Casino de Montréal. He was the Eskimo nominee for Outstanding Canadian in both 2007 and 2008.
"It has been an honour to share the stage with such unbelievable talent here at the player awards," says Peterson. "Any time that I can represent an organization as steeped in excellence as the Edmonton Eskimos, it is humbling to say the least. My hat goes off to Ben Cahoon on his great season, as I am a big fan. Congratulations to all of the other nominees and winners tonight on their contributions to their teams."
An eight-year CFL vet, Peterson has had his best CFL season, leading all Eskimo receivers with 101 receptions for 1,317 yards and four touchdowns in 18 starts. In the final game of the regular season, Kamau went over 100 catches on the year - only the fourth Eskimo in history to do so. He also enjoyed his second +1000 yards receiving season in a row. Peterson was named the Canadian Player of the Week twice and Canadian Player of the Month once. He was also selected to the 2008 West Division All-Star team.
Peterson received 25 of 46 first place ballots to edge out hometown favourite and three-time CFL All-Star Ben Cahoon.
