Follow along with the Professor's draft
Hey guys, I am bored and involved in a long drawn out draft right now
(we are doing a no time limit draft to get out as much of the draft as we can before our live draft takes place)
It is a ten player keeper, IDP league, 12 teams, three divisons, each divsion winner makes the playoffs with 3 wildcard teams.
You can only keep a total of 3 guys from your team that were drafted in rounds 2-5 and no one is allowed to keep thier first round pick and you must keep at least 4 IDP's and no more than two players per position
start 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 RB/WR, 5 IDPS (combo of DL, DB, LB) with a pretty big bench
Since no first rounders from the previous year are kept, it makes the first round interesting, and the 2-5 rule really makes a difference of who you target in the 5th as opposed to your 6th round pick. I was stacked except for QB, so with the best RB's left being Lynch and Edge and I already have S-Jax and Westbrook, Manning was the no brainer.
My keepers are in Bold
QB
Peyton Manning - 1st round pick this year #7 overall
Jay Cutler
Brett Favre
RB
Brian Westbrook 2-5 guy #1
Steven Jackson 2-5 guy #2
Deshaun Foster - 3rd round pick #31 overall
Chris Brown - 5th round pick #56 overall
Tony Hunt - 8th round pick #89 overall
WR
Chad Johnson 2-5 guy #3
Reggie Brown
Anquan Boldin - 2nd Round pick #18 overall
Brandon Jones - 6th round pick #65 overall
Jacoby Jones - 10th round pick #113 overall
TE
Bo Scaife - 9th round pick #104
K
Olindo Mare - 12th round pick #137
DL
Dwight Freeney
Aaron Kampman
LB
Brian Urlacher
Derrick Johnson
Mike Petersen - 11th round pick #128
DB
Sean Jones - 6th round pick #68 overall
Gibril Wilson - 7th round pick #80 overall
Any comments are appreciated, thanks

I was able to get Boldin in the second round, I honestly was targeting Petersen or Jackson, but Petersen was the first pick of the second round and Jackson was taken right before my pick.
The best backs that were left were Fred Taylor, Ledell Betts, Jerious Norwood, Chris Brown, Kevin Jones, Michael Turner, Vernand Morency, Boldin was the only real option I had, it was either going to be Braylon Edwards or Anquan, so I went with Anquan as my 3rd WR.

That's still a great consolation prize IMO.

well on to round three, my starting lineup is pretty much set save a TE, K which can be had later, now I need to beef up my backups at RB and WR, I need a starting RB to take care of two bye weeks and a couple WR's. at this point there are few backs to choose from (deshaun foster, fred taylor, chris brown) that is really it before I start taking true backups and players for keepers, Michael Turner, Ladell Betts, Warrick Dunn were all drafted this round before me.
On the other side, there are still a bunch of top WR left, definitely a bunch of number 1's (branch, chambers, santana moss, etc.)
So I took a RB
I don't have a fourth round pick and if I took Branch or santana moss now as a 4th WR, I would have to take michael bennett as a third back by the time 22 more players are off the board.
I went with Foster, mainly because the zone blocking is supposed to help cutback runners, right? well foster is a good cutback guy and could be a nice bye week fill in, also the two teams that he plays during my RB's bye weeks are New Orleans and Tennessee.

So like I said I didn't have a 4th round pick so I had to wait 24 picks until my next pick. A bunch of defensive guys went off the board and a couple of surprising picks including some #2 RB's and #2 WR's while Chris Brown a starter at RB is still there. It is still a bit early to go for my sleepers and with my starters pretty much set, I took Chris Brown. I have two picks in the 6th round and will definitely take a sleeper there.

6th round and if you read the rules, this is a round that is key for drafting players, you can keep them and all picks from now on without having to worry about your 2-5 guys. I had two picks and had every intention of taking Michael Bush, what happens. he gets taken two picks before mine. AAAGGGGG, so with four RB's and 3 WR's and still not worried about my IDPs with an already solid base, I went for best WR left and to me that was Brandon Jones, young has looked his way often and someone has to get catches there, LOL.
With my second pick in the round I went for defense, my weakest position is DB, I have none, Sean Jones is still there, so my first defensive player drafted is top 3 DB for IDP leagues and I get to keep him next year for nothing. Woo hooo
talk to you in round 7

7th round now, I have my team pretty much set, I have 6 picks left to get 2 DB's 1LB, 1 TE, 1 deep WR, & 1 Deep RB
Gibril Wilson is a top 5 DB and is still on the board. still many TE's and sleeper WR's left, no real threats at RB worthy of anything, so I grabbed Gibril Wilson to go with Sean Jones as my DB's
