OK, I know jack **** about baseball, but I decided to go ahead and get a fantasy baseball team. Pretty much just to give me a reason to follow baseball while I'm on the boat, something to do. I used ESPN's player rankings. How's my team?

5 by 5 or 4 by 4? Either way, you should do fine in the power categories but you could use more steals, IMO. You have a very nice group of starting pitchers but I think you need more saves.

Like I said, Berkman is hurt and he'll be out until May at the earliest. He's definitely worth stashing away on your bench, though.

put Berkman on the DL, JD Drew in the OF, and Dimitri Young at Utility...

you need a new 2B and you could stand to upgrade SS...Lugo plays for the D-Rays, hes got a fire to him thats good for the team, but his value in fantasy baseball is very limited...Chase Utley sucks a fat one....

whats the FA list looking like?

the OF is rough...Sheffield/Matsui might come back to hit you hard....for one, they play for the same team...when the Yankees dont play, you're missing two players...Matsui might have a slump after breaking out last season, the pitchers might have figured him out and Sheffield has the steroid talk still around him....if the talks grow too much, he might have a Bonds' type "injury" to let the talks cool down a while...you should try to trade one of them, you could probably get a good value for Sheffield, possibly a trade for Bobby Abreu...you might find a sucker holding him....JD Drew will go on the DL at some point in the season, its just a matter of when....

your SP are solid, id say the best in your league without even seeing the other teams...but your RP sucks, Wickman should be alright, but theres a chance he could lose his Closing spot...Cleveland has a good bullpen...Alvarez sucks, you definately should try to upgrade there...

I was trying to be more diplomatic than that.

IMO, Sheffield and Matsui being on the same team isn't a problem. At worst, they'll play 5 games in a week while some others play 7 and that won't happen often. Generally, your best bet is to just go with your best hitters as long as they're healthy. (If you have daily lineups changes rather than weekly, then that changes things a bit.)

I agree that you almost certainly have the best group of starting pitchers. You could trade one of them for a closer and probably still have the best starters. I would grab whatever closers are still out there, if any, and see if one comes through. Often closers come through big time when nobody expects it at all, like Eric Gagne and Eddie Guardado a few years ago. At the very least, see who is available as free agents that are closers in waiting, like Brad Lidge was last year. Last year, Lidge helped a lot of people in the WHIP and ERA categories even before he brought the saves, not that you'll need help in WHIP and ERA with those starters.

I partly agree with tre about the middle infield. I don't think those guys are great and there is probably better available as free agents but they aren't that bad. Lugo is your most dependable source of steals so keep that in mind if you decide to make a change there.
