We have 12 teams and you are expanding three to make it 15? An odd number? Also I would suggest if you do want to expand, holding an expansion draft for said new teams so they can get up to speed quickly.

Basically to do this you would have each team (the original 12) able to protect 4 players from the expansion teams. Everyone else is up for grabs. After a charter team loses a player to an expansion team their roster is shut off though. This prevents any one team from being raped. Everyone will lose one player.

This gives each (3) expansion team a core of 4 players before the first draft or free agency. After that you give each expansion team what you talked about, the FA money and the draft picks.

I've expanded from a keeper league twice doing it this way and each time the teams were "competitive" but not contenders right out of the gate.

The expansion teams get plenty of help buidling a core with extra FA points and top overall picks.

It will take them 1 or 2 years, but they will eventually be contenders if they use thier rookie picsk well.

You might not need it man. Especially since this is a no money league. When I had to do that the last two times we basically had to "sell the teams" at $150 a year. When dealing with that money, it's hard to get people to sign on knowing that they won't compete for a championship for like at least 4-5 years. By the time they are good they have invested over $600 into the league ...

It's been my experience that without the expansion draft it takes expansion teams roughly 4 years to become a contender. With the expansion draft it speeds that up to around 2-3 years.

You might not need to do it ... frankly, being an original owner, I would rather not lose someone I don't have to lose.
