Somebody dropped Russell Martin, so I picked him up as a FA, I figure he is an upgrade to my bench, and a solid fill-in/utility player. It got me thinking though, that maybe i should trade mauer. Martin is a decent enough C, and Mauer really doesnt do much outside of AVG. I proposed trades to 4 guys with crappy Cs, and asked for a top SP, the 4 SPs are Webb, Peavy, Halladay, and Hernandez.

1) Is it a good idea to try to unload Mauer? am I overvaluing Martin?

2) If you had one of those SPs and a crappy C, would you do it?

If it is a keeper league, I would keep Mauer... his power numbers have nowhere to go but up.

#1 catcher in the game. If its a keeper, don't even consider a trade unless its in a package for Johan.

Martin is in the bottom 2nd/upper 3rd tier catchers. Mid-to-low 2nd tier for a keeper. He might hit more HRs than Mauer, but I don't see Martin leading the league in BA anytime soon.

I'd want the pitcher, but a lot of people would love to get Mauer.

My main line of reasoning is that the difference between Mauer and Martin will be much smaller than the difference between one of these stud SPs and my 5th SP (assuming i drop him, which I dont even need to)

I already said it wasnt a keeper, and would you really expect someone in peanuts deep keeper league to drop russell martin?

I have Maur in peanuts league and it will take a LOT to get Mauer out of my hands, a guy like Felix Hernandez, whom I already have. Mauer is the ****. The most reliable catcher there is.. I feel so secure with Mauer I don't even have a backup catcher.. keep Mauer. His value is huge.
