I understand. I agree about Meachem. He's clearly in a good situation. But I disagree about the "dynasty perspective" for drafting. Obviously, yeah, you look for better talents. But Huff is a clearly better talent than Whitner, but who's the better fantasy player? Whitner. Why? Because of the team he's on, the defense he plays in, and how they use him.
You have to look at the coaching and the stability of the franchise. Personally I would not draft a Raiders player unless he was simply "that good" of a talent and clearly better than the next better alternative. Teams that have a history of poor coaching, coaching instability, or just plain suckiness usually don't produce as good of players as others. So when you have two guys in the same general range of talent, you take these things into consideration. Now, Calvin Johnson is clearly a better talent than any other WR in this class, and landed in a spectacular situation. He should be the #1 WR on anybody's board. But when you get to the next tier of guys, Ginn-Meachem-Bowe, you look at the other considerations. Meachem and Bowe are in better systems with better coaching. Both are in good offenses that will help their development as players. Ginn is in a clearly worse situation and it will retard his progression as a pro player, despite being on the same talent-level as the other two. So Ginn then falls into the next tier of guys with Anthony Gonzalez, Craig Davis, and Sidney Rice.

I think you have to factor in everything. What I was refering to was a situation where Lynch would get more carries in year one than Peterson (which I'm not sure will even happen). If you are talking system, then its a bigger consideration than imediate impact.

Then skip on the guys that get sacks and tackles. Whatever. We'll scooop them up with no worries.

Well, yeah. I didn't mean immediate first-year impact. They're rookies. First-year projections can be all over the place, you have to prepare for down the road, yes. But the system, etc, is a huge part of their development. That's what I meant. I think we're in agreement.

The highest scoring guys were guys like Kampman who had both Tackles AND Sacks, and that's how it should be. A guy who comes in once every 3 plays but manages to get 16 sacks in a season because that's all he does should not be worth as much as an every-down player that racks up everything. A sack isn't as huge an impactful play as you would make it out to be. They're way overrated. It's a tackle for a loss of yards that happens to be on a specific player. There aren't options for bonus points for generic tackles for loss, nor is their accurate statistics made of that sort of thing in most mainstream sites. It's a crock of ****, really. To make a sack worth 5x a tackle like you were advocating is just plain stupid. A sack is not as valuable a play as a ****ing touchdown. What should interceptions be worth, 10x a sack? But then how should we score offensive points? It's about developing a scoring system that weights the impact of what a player does fairly.

Since I don't have a pick until the 3rd or 4th round in our league and the money league is a split rookies/players draft, I don't care about this year's rookie crop.
That being said, there are some potential standouts from the first round. I'll put off the top 12 since most leagues are 12 teams, assuming its a dynasty/keeper.
1 - Adrian Peterson
2 - Marshawn Lynch
3 - Robert Meachem
4 - Anthony Gonzalez
5 - Dwayne Bowe
6 - Jamarcus Russell
7 - Calvin Johnson
8 - Patrick Willis
9 - Lawrence Timmons
10 - Jon Beason
11 - Brady Quinn
12 - Gaines Adams
HM:
Jarvis Moss
Jamaal Anderson
Ted Ginn Jr.
Laron Landry
Craig Davis
Greg Olsen

After looking it over, this draft is WR and IDP heavy. Hopefully you picked up your RBs last year.

definitely. Unless you're picking near the top you better have RB taken care of.

Yeah. Only two good running back prospects and a couple of late round fliers. That's why I moved up. I needed a running back.
