Having lost incumbent starter Ryan Longwell and missed out on both Adam Vinatieri and Mike Vanderjagt, the Packers signed former Cowboys kicker Billy Cundiff to a one-year contract, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He's not [Ryan] Longwell, he's not Vinatieri," an unnamed Packers special teams coach told the Journal-Sentinel. "He's not a great field goal kicker, but he's OK. And I think he's in the top third of the league as a kickoff guy."
Our View
Cundiff suffered a hip flexor in training camp last year and sat out until Bill Parcells came calling midway through the season. He proceeded to play poorly enough to be cut after a Week 15 kick was blocked, then was most recently with the Bucs as an insurance policy for starte Matt Bryant. In his Cowboys career, Cundiff was accurate on 73.2 percent of his field goal attempts. Obviously, based on the Packers coach's comments, Cundiff is not necessarily the answer for the Green and Gold, and he'll likely have to compete for the starting job in training camp.
It may only be kickers but you let your rival pick up longwell and this is how you replace him you have got to be kidding me. Last years down grading of positions seems to be continuing this year for the pack.
He'll have to compete for the job in camp. If he can show the skills, great. If not, I don't see how we would keep him. And I'm not surprised Minny took Longwell as soon as he was available. If the Vikings could train talent on their own they would, but they can't, so they just end up buying all the GB players who had a hand in beating them. It's been going on for years now...

Yeah if my team was going to hell in a hand basket i whould be bitter at its rival too.

I'm not bitter don't get me wrong, I just was pointing out the fact that you guys can't train talent so you buy all of ours. Don't get offended. It's not a bad strategy.. Hell it's worked for the Yankees for years now.
Also, from my point of view my team is doing better than yours. Starting a 38 year old QB with the mobility of a precarious statue, and losing 3 top recievers in 2 years.. You better hope Hutch can give Johnson all the time he needs, because he can't move and there's no real targets left for him. And Longwell's last second kicks might have beaten you guys a few times, but when that's the only scoring you'll have, he won't save you against actual talented teams.. I do believe that Childress knows what he's doing, but it's still going to be a few years before you guys see playoffs.

i doubt the Vikings signed him because he used to play for the Packers. They signed him because he is a talented kicker and they have been lacking one for a very long time. Same goes for Sharper. They don't just go out and target people that used to play for the Packers.
it is not unusual for divisional teams to target players from within their own division. It happens throughout the league. The eagles sign giants all the time and giants sign eagles and the same goes for the cowboys and redskins and eagles.
