Default Packers Re-Sign Running Back Davenport

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060328/...N5bnN1YmNhdA--

Davenport, who missed part of last season with a broken ankle, joins Ahman Green and William Henderson as running backs to re-sign with the Packers as unrestricted free agents.

No we're not. Herron will be cut, and Henderson is a FB. That leaves Gado, Green and Davenport, and since this is Green's final year, we can phase him out while we train two younger runners. Not a bad strategy, seems it worked for the Steelers.

What's the word on Davenports foot though? I heard all he could get was deals that had a bunch of clauses because he was so injury prone, I wanted the Eagles to take a shot at him.

All in all I like the move though, the more they can run the better and having them 3 is a nice start IMO.

A broken ankle should heal fine. I'm more worried about Green's injury than Davenport's. I wouldn't call him injury prone either. He's just not an agile runner. He plows through lines thinking he's as big as Bettis, but he's not, so he gets hurt. He'll be fine as long as he splits carries, and in this new Atlanta-style RBBC plan Jagodzinski has, he will fit in nicely as the power runner.

Storm the steelers had alot of things the packers dont right now. an Interior line, a defense.

I think the RBBC phrase doesn't really apply in this case, IMO, according to your argument about davenport being the power runner, storm. just because a team uses two RB's doesn't mean they have a RBBC situation. it just means they have two backs with different styles they use in different situations throughout the game. when I think of RBBC, I think of the vikings the last couple years. they have been using a bunch of backs because they can't find one that really seems to be any better than the others, so they just keep plugging guys in hoping something works. that's my take on RBBC, but that's just my opinion.

We should have a pretty good defense this year too. That is the stated goal of the GM at least. We're not the Steelers, and I am not saying we will be. A Super Bowl is not within reach for years to come. I do have a lot of faith in the new coaches however.

If that's your take, then fine, I will not call it RBBC. We have three RB's that will split carries. Green and Gado, and Davenport as a power runner. Green will probably not be what he was after a severe injury last season anyway, so it will be good to not have him be the main man. I'm happy about it anyway.

Yeah I wish Miami would have gotten Davenport. He is BIG! I also think its hilarious watching him return kicks. Its almost like watching the bus as a PR. And Gado is a power runner too. I think the only finesse back left in the mix is Green, and he isnt that finesse. You may miss Fisher in the passing game. He always opened up more options.
