Default Green and Davenport to miss training camp

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- New Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy won't have his top two running backs for his first minicamp as Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport continue to recover from last season's injuries.

Offensive tackle Chad Clifton, who is recovering from offseason knee and ankle surgeries, also is expected to miss camp.

Brett Favre, who told the team last week he would return to play next season, is expected to participate in the minicamp, which runs Friday through Sunday.

Green ruptured his right quadriceps tendon in the Packers' game at Minnesota Oct. 23. Davenport broke his ankle at New Orleans Oct. 9.

minicamp is only two days so it won't hurt to bad, green might miss at least part of training camp because he is at least 3 months away from coming back from his injury.

Three words GADO GADO GADO!!! I loved this guy last year, he was the perfect compliment to Shaun Alexander on my fantasy roster. Darn shame he got injured. I hope he gets to start more this season, hes obviously a natural runner.

Well, this will give Gado the opportunity he needs to secure the starting spot.. Green should have just called it quits after that injury. Long live Samkon. He'll have an even better season this year. Would still be nice to have Davenport all healed though, he's one of the best goal line runners in the NFL..

storm, green only just turned 29, he is a great back that was behind a terrible o-line last year. I think he could very well have a comeback year this year.

Nothing against Green. He's the best we've had since Hornung. He's an amazing runner and for years has been a cornerstone of our offense. Yes, the line sucked last year, and it wasn't his fault he got hurt. However, whether he's 29, 22 or 36, he will not be anything close to what he was once he comes back from that type of injury. I don't think we should have even re-signed him, but it's only fo one year and he's done so much for the team they feel he deserves another shot at least. I can see why they brought him back, but after three weeks of 40yd games and all of Lambeau chanting for Gado, Green may lose the starting job real fast.

I can definitely see your point storm, but if the holes are there for gado, they would certainly be there for green and I just feel a comeback year for him, but we'll see.

The line looked better blocking for Gado than for green, maybe Gado just can run more people over more. Because he made that Pack O look not as abysmal as they should have been.
