Moss isn't goint to the Packers, he will never take a pay cut. As for the fans, i think they can be very forgiving if Moss is catching TDs for them.

Ummm... NO. All homerism aside, there is no forgiveness for that walking waste of talent. He may like Favre and Favre may like him, but that's not enough to keep a malcontent from being a malcontent. Moss will always be a Viking in my book, no matter who he plays for, and I hate seeing Vikings in green as much as I hate seeing Packers in purple (Longwell, Sharper, etc.) KR the KR was one thing, as he and Ted had a relationship in Seattle. (He still sucks though.) Bringing a guy like Moss in would be an insult to the franchise, and no amount of wins or even rings could change that. I'd seriously rather have TO.

Packers pondering potential Moss trade despite fans' objections
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) Even fans who own shares of Green Bay Packers stock don't have veto power over a potential trade for a player seen here as a touchdown-scoring scoundrel - Randy Moss.

But if they could, they would.

When the widely rumored trade was brought up in front of a crowd at the Packers' annual Fan Fest at Lambeau Field on Friday evening, boos and hisses drowned out any timid cheers.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson was sitting on stage at the time.

So, Ted, what do you say to that?

``I don't say anything,'' Thompson said. ``That's the best way to do it.''

In keeping with Thompson's close-to-the-vest philosophy, he hasn't officially acknowledged that he is exploring a trade for Moss - which is fine, because the Oakland Raiders haven't said that they're bent on trading the talented but moody former Pro Bowl wide receiver.

But Packers chairman and CEO Bob Harlan hinted strongly on Friday that the Packers' front office is going through the same sort of character risk-versus-reward debate they did before signing former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Koren Robinson last fall.

And Harlan says fans who have called his office to weigh in on Moss generally don't like the idea of trading for a receiver who might be past his prime, might be playing his way out of a second NFL city because of his questionable attitude - and, by the way, once pretended to ``moon'' the fans at Lambeau after scoring a touchdown.

``I don't want to say it's been overwhelming, but there have been a few fans who (complained),'' Harlan said. ``And the thing they basically say to me is, ``You guys have so much class. Don't lose class now.'''

Harlan, who is retiring in May, said he is very concerned about maintaining the team's image. And those concerns will play a role in whether the team pushes ahead toward a trade.

``I've had fans call me and say, 'Bob, I'd rather see you go 0-16 than do some things that were done here in the '80s,''' Harlan said. ``And believe me, I'm as concerned about the image of this franchise as anybody, and will be years from now. It's not just because I'm leaving. I'm very concerned about how we look next year and the year after that. So we're going to be cautious.''

Harlan said the team had extensive discussions last year before signing Robinson, who is serving a suspension under the NFL's substance abuse policy. In February, Robinson was sentenced to 90 days in jail for fleeing police in Minnesota last August.

But when - or if - Robinson is reinstated, the Packers might well welcome him back.

Packers talking to Raiders about Moss

The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams talking to the Oakland Raiders about acquiring wide receiver Randy Moss and there is a chance a trade could be completed before the draft starts Saturday.

According to an NFL source with direct knowledge of the Moss trade maneuvers, the Packers are in the running for the former Pro Bowl receiver's services and could have a deal in place soon. However, the source also warned that just as easily the whole thing could fall apart and the Packers would go on with the draft without making a deal.

The Packers and Raiders have spoken about a Moss deal over the past two months but haven't ever really gotten close to hammering out a deal. It has always been assumed that nothing would happen until the draft drew near and the Raiders were sure of their selection at the top of the draft.

A personnel executive for another NFL team said that the Raiders have been shopping Moss of late. He said the Raiders were tired of Moss' act after two less-than-typical years for the once dominating receiver and wanted to dump him, but were finding very few takers.

The Packers are an ideal place for the moody and often combative Moss, some people think, because he would be teammed with quarterback Brett Favre, a player he knows and respects. The two shared the same agent, James (Bus) Cook, for awhile, and played against one another twice a year for seven seasons when Moss was with the Vikings.

Favre has been a big proponent of bringing in Moss, according to Cook, who said earlier this spring that the two have always wanted to play on the same team. Moss might be more reluctant to act up with Favre in the locker room and on the field, although some league observers think he won't ever change his ways.

To make the deal work, the Packers are going to want to restructure Moss' current contract, which carries over from the Raiders in the case of a trade. Moss is set to earn $9.75 million and the Packers aren't going to be willing to carry that on their payroll, knowing they could run into a problem with the receiver down the line.

Moss' agent, Tim DiPiero, did not return a phone message at his West Virginia office and Packers general manager Ted Thompson was unavailable for comment.

When reached today, Cook, who still has ties to Moss despite not being listed as his agent, refused to acknowledge anything was imminent.

"I don't know anything about anything. I'm worried about Calvin Johnson," said Cook, who represents the talented Georgia Tech receiver.

It's possible DiPiero and the Packers are talking to see whether the two sides can reach an agreement on a restructured contract that would appeal to both sides. The Raiders may be talking to other teams about Moss, and so there is no assurance a deal with the Packers will be completed.

DiPiero told Twin Cities television station KSTP that Moss was in excellent shape and "ran a 4.26, 4.28, and a 4.31 (seconds in the 40-yard dash) during one of his workouts last week. He's in the best shape of his life."
