That's because he was the only suitable WR we had last year professor. He had a hard time later in the year when teams started double- and triple- covering him though. Hence 29 picks.. Favre would rather force it into coverage for Driver than throw it to a wide-open Chatman just to watch him drop it...
true, you make points, I just remember some nice long plays. he did only have 5 TD's so I see your point.

Don't get me wrong though. Driver is a great reciever. He's just no Steve Smith or CJ. He can't be the only target we have. Now we got Fergy back and signed Boerighter, and I read that that rookie Jennings is tearing it up in the minicamps. Still, Walker will be missed.
extending an old WR whos well past his prime is not a smart move, Drivers a good player but he wont be for much longer. Drivers only Caught 80+ balls twice in 7 years and only went over 1000 three times. the Packers havent had a great WR since Sharpe.

lionsfan, first you say that they should have kept walker, then you say that walker will suck this year. They drafted a guy to help out who is looking good early and they will get another one. I think it's good to sign a guy like driver who will give it his all and help the young guys learn.
Notebook: Driver wouldn’t have held out for new deal

Receiver Donald Driver on Saturday said he would not have held out or caused any problems had the Green Bay Packers not redone his contract to give him an extension that included a $2 million signing bonus and a $2 million roster bonus this season.
Driver spoke publicly for the first time since the two-year contract extension was completed more than two weeks ago. The 31-year-old had two years left on his contract but now essentially has a four-year, $17 million contract if he plays through 2009.
Packers General Manager Ted Thompson has refused to say why he gave Driver an extension when he wouldn’t do so for disgruntled receiver Javon Walker, who was traded to Denver the weekend of the draft.
“I knew I had two years left, and they didn’t have to do it,” Driver said during a brief interview between minicamp practices on Saturday. “I take my hat off to them for even looking at it. When I talked to Ted, he said, ‘You deserved it.’”
Driver’s extension was completed on May 5 but never formally was announced by the team. The Press-Gazette reported on May 11 that the deal was complete.
Fellow Packers receiver Robert Ferguson said Saturday he wasn’t aware Driver got an extension because he didn’t read the paper and Driver never mentioned it.
“He deserves it, without a doubt,” Ferguson said. “He’s so durable and consistent. You know what he’s going to give you day in and day out.”
Harris’ absence: Cornerback Al Harris is not attending this weekend’s minicamp and, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal, it’s because he wants the Packers to redo his contract.
Harris is under contract through 2009 and is scheduled to make $1.5 million this season. He also received a $1 million roster bonus this offseason. He was given a $5.25 million signing bonus as part of a contract extension he did nearly two years ago, but that deal has only $500,000 in additional bonus money remaining over the next three years. The remaining base salaries are $2.2 million in 2007, $2.85 million in 2008 and $3 million in 2009.
When asked if Harris’ absence had anything to do with his contract, coach Mike McCarthy said: “No, not that I’m aware of. I have not spoken to Al Harris (about) anything with his contract.”
McCarthy said Harris is missing this voluntary minicamp because of a “personal matter that he’s committed to this weekend.” McCarthy said he expected Harris to attend next month’s organized team activities.
Harris’ agent, Jack Bechta, did not return messages on Saturday.
Gado’s weight: Samkon Gado doesn’t believe he’s carrying too much weight, but he’s not likely to stay at 230 pounds for long.
The running back is about 5 pounds heavier than he was last season, but he said the team hasn’t asked him to lose any weight. He said the coaching staff has given him a target weight of 229 pounds. Gado said he weighed as much as 235 pounds shortly after last season and before he began his offseason workout program.
“This is normal for me,” Gado said. “I’ll put on a couple of pounds now, and then I’ll lose it when we get started. As long as I can stay around 230, then I know I’ll be fine because training camp will take a few pounds off.”
With Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport out with injuries, Gado has been the No. 1 halfback throughout the offseason.
Zero tolerance: McCarthy no longer is letting penalties go unnoticed.
During the first minicamp, McCarthy and his staff didn’t do much when a player committed a foul because they were so focused on installing and teaching their schemes that they didn’t want any interruptions. That’s not the case in this minicamp.
Several times on Saturday, players were yanked out of a drill for committing an infraction. In the morning practice, rookie tackle Josh Bourke committed a false start and immediately was replaced by Will Whitticker. Rookie defensive end Johnny Jolly jumped offsides and was replaced by Cullen Jenkins. In the afternoon practice, rookie guard Jason Spitz jumped offsides and was replaced by Daryn Colledge. The guilty players did push-ups.
Odds and ends: Linebacker Byron Santiago didn’t practice on Saturday after he sustained a back injury on Friday, and defensive tackle Kenderick Allen dropped out after Saturday’s morning practice with an Achilles’ injury. … Receiver Rod Gardner and fullback William Henderson practiced on Saturday after missing Friday because of personal reasons. Green, who also was absent on Friday, watched Saturday’s afternoon practice from the sidelines. Receivers coach Jimmy Robinson returned to practice on Saturday afternoon after attending his daughter’s high school graduation on Friday.
