On Monday, when Favre was asked why he thought the Packers would be able to turn things around this season after going 4-12 a year ago, he responded with such optimism that someone could easily wonder what Favre knows about this year's team that seems to be a mystery to everyone else.

"I really feel like this is, as far as talent is concerned, the most talented team that I've been a part of as a whole," Favre said.

Favre's statement likely would cause guffaws from members of the 1996 team that won Super Bowl XXXI, and it's quite the turnaround from earlier this year when Favre threatened to retire if the Packers didn't make more improvements in free agency.

But after seeing first-hand what the Packers have during organized team activities in June and in the first four days of training camp, Favre said he sees a great deal of potential in this year's team.

"(It's also) the most unproven, inexperienced team that I've ever played on," Favre said. "If we can somehow put it together, there's a lot of talent out there."

Well come on....this was a guy who was wondering in the offseason whether this team was worth coming back to. I'm not sure he still doesn't have those thoughts, but put yourself in his position. He was worried about his ill wife and she got better and said, "Honey, if you want to play, you should play" And his kids probably said, "Play, dad!" So he's thinking...well, I DO like playing and it would be like a couple more million dollars or so....I'll PLAY. So now he is on board and he's playing...when he talks to the press, what is he SUPPOSED to say?? "This team sucks and I'm not sure why I came back." ??? To a certain extent, he's not lying...they have a lot of young guys and a lot of speed that they've lacked over the years, but I think more than anything, it was Brett making a comment that was meant for his younger teammates to read in the paper the next day..or the day after...or the day after that......lol. And i guess that IS Favre being Favre.....Hyde

yes im serious lol. you would think if training camp made u feel like that then u would want to avoid the regular season

I think you nailed it. I figured he was just optimistic, but if his comments are meant to inspire his younger teammates, then good for him. It's nice to see him being a team player again.
