Ahmad Carroll is a first-round draft pick, a second-team cornerback and a third-year disappointment.
He was a 20-year-old project when the Green Bay Packers selected him as the 28th overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft. He has evolved into a 23-year-old quandary that begs the question: Is he more help or hindrance?
The Packers have been patient with him. They have cajoled, mollycoddled, pleaded, prodded and pushed.
Carroll has responded by holding, kicking, screaming, elbowing and fighting — and that's just with his coaches and teammates. He has taunted the opposing bench, held receivers when he should have known better and been caught on camera elbowing an opponent in the groin beneath the pile.
At times, he acts more like a prison movie extra than an NFL defensive back.
