Favre: 'Worst conditions I've ever played in'
QB has hard time with swarming Bears defense
December 24, 2007
Chicago's fickle wind hasn't favored the disappointing Bears most of this season.
But Sunday's swirling gusts at Soldier Field played into the opportunistic hands of the home underdogs, who vanquished the NFC North champion Green Bay Packers 35-7.
Brett Favre lamented the windchill conditions, saying: "I've been playing 17 years, and that was the worst conditions I've ever played in. No excuse … I mean, it was. But [the Bears] handled it better than we did.
"It was cold, I'm not going to lie to you. I haven't thawed out yet. I've played in colder actual temperature. But in the 16 years I've spent in Green Bay, I've learned that wind means everything. It can be zero degrees, and if it's not windy at all, it's a lot easier to manage than 40-m.p.h. winds.
"It was extremely cold. It cut right through you. It made throwing difficult."
The wind prevented either team from throwing deep accurately. The Bears defense was aware of Favre's previous success with throwing quick slant passes over the middle, and Bears defenders effectively shut off those passing lanes.
"I'm not going to sit here and make excuses, but that was not the game we wanted to get into today," Favre said. "The game we wanted to get into was the [66-yard touchdown] run by Ryan Grant. He scored a long touchdown, and that was a bonus. But we wanted to establish drives that way. During the week, we didn't think the conditions were going to be like this. I don't know if anyone did."
