Packers re-sign RB Green to one-year deal
March 6, 2006
GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) - Brett Favre's status may still be up in the air, but the Green Bay Packers know that Ahman Green will be back in 2006.
The team signed the four-time Pro Bowl running back to a one-year contract on Monday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth at least $3 million.
The Packers hope that Green's return will encourage Favre to continue his legendary career. The future Hall of Fame quarterback is expected to decide in the next several months whether to retire or return to the Packers, who suffered through an abysmal 4-12 season in 2005.
Green suffered a torn left thigh tendon in a loss to Minnesota on October 23, ending a disappointing season. The 29-year-old was averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry at the time of the injury.
Green, who had rushed for more than 1,100 yards in his five previous seasons with Green Bay, finished with only 255 in 2005. He has 7,432 career rushing yards in eight campaigns with Seattle and Green Bay. Green rushed for a franchise-record 1,883 yards in 2003 and is 1,101 yards shy of surpassing Jim Taylor as the Packers' all-time leading rusher.

Update: The Packers are a team that is said to have interest in signing Brees if he hits the market as a free agent, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Recommendation: It is rumored that new Packers coach Mike McCarthy is not totally enamored with Aaron Rodgers as the heir apparent to Brett Favre.
bad move by the Pack, they should've let green go and made it a 3 man race between, Gado, Davenport and Fisher(they still have fisher?)

i hate RBBC, Minnesota did it under the Tice era and it just doesn't work, IMO. A back needs more than 10 carries a game to be affective and you don't get that by RBBC. I don't like the move by the Pack. They should have let him go, saved a lot of money and started Gado.
you need two RB to be successful, but three just hurts you

there are like ten teams interested in signing Brees so this doesn't really say much.
