Houston Texans Players Victims Of Scam
Cars, Homes Had Fake Titles
HOUSTON -- A man was arrested for scamming millions of dollars from Houston Texans players, officials told KPRC Local 2 Thursday.
Investigators with the District Attorney's Office arrested Darrick Moore, a parolee they said scammed Texans players out of money through an investment deal.
"The story is an investment in real estate," Harris County Assistant District Attorney John Brewer said. "Houses would be flipped, houses would be built and sold."
Investigators said Moore offered players expensive cars as a sweetener to invest.
Officials said Moore obtained more than a dozen luxury cars and sports utility vehicles through phony credit transactions. He turned around and sold those cars to players for cash. Players paid tens of thousands of dollars for cars that had bogus titles.
The automobiles were repossessed.
Moore is currently on parole for organized criminal activity, but insisted he is innocent of the new charges.
"I'm a black man who's helped a lot of ball players save a lot of money and invest a lot of money," said Moore. "They can't deal with it."
KPRC Local 2 learned players involved included C.C. Brown, Domanick Davis, Vernand Morency, Shantee Orr and Jason Simmons. Simmons, Moore's neighbor, did not comment on the investigation.
Officials said Moore also sold two houses with fraudulent titles.
Investigators said they are going through Moore's financial records to determine if there are more victims.
Moore was charged with theft in Fort Bend County and engaging in organized criminal activity in Harris County.
