This article says alot about how much Carr did in fact suck and was uncoachable, I saw this in another place.
Kubiak convinced Carr's technique fails under stress | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle
excerpt:
Soon after Kubiak was hired, he started talking with Carr about how important his feet are. Carr has worked on his moves for months, but Kubiak said he sees the same mistakes each week.
He and offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun plan to work more closely with Carr on his footwork. On one play in the second half on Sunday, Carr tripped as he pulled back from the center and was sacked.
"Mike (Flanagan) just kind of stepped on me," Carr said. "I've got to get out of there faster, too. But it was just a case where he's been trying to hold up on those guys inside, and eventually they're going to get a little push. We just had a quick three-step drop out there, and so I wasn't too deep, and he just caught my shoelace."
On other plays, Kubiak has identified what he says is a recurring problem.
"When he makes mistakes or things happen bad for him, it's usually tied to his feet," Kubiak said. "We have to get those things to where they're automatic for him."
Kubiak, a former QB who worked with a number of quarterbacks during his 11 years as an NFL assistant, understands the rewards Carr will reap when he becomes comfortable with what is being asked of him.
"I teach a quarterback to read with his feet," Kubiak said. "You take a three-step drop, you hit your ball foot, the ball goes here; if he's not open, you hitch, the ball goes here. That's the way you teach a guy to read. It is different for (Carr), what I'm teaching, so it's difficult for him."
Kubiak sees Carr's footwork break down mostly late in games and on key plays.
"Some of the things that happen to him (area) as the game goes on — they were in the third quarter, and the game's progressing and the bullets are flying, so to speak — we'll have a play-action or something, and his feet will get off or get incorrect, and it causes us to miss a play or something," Kubiak said. "It's something that you have to bring to the table every week for your football team. And he and I are going to battle until we get those things automatic, which they should be."
