When nothing else had worked with Travis Johnson and Jerome Mathis, the two Texans players were summoned to the head coach's office for some blunt talk.

Kubiak essentially told them their careers were on the line. He challenged them to change their work habits or be prepared to look for work in the private sector.

Now they're two of this training camp's success stories. It's way too early to make a real judgment of either player, but for the first time in a while, coaches seem confident they could make a difference.
