The NFL is "looking into" charges by a former employee that Choice Energy president and chief operating officer Javier Loya — a Texans limited partner — is a high-stakes gambler.
Loya, who has been one of owner Bob McNair's partners since 2002, was accused in a lawsuit by Alex Matturro of high-stakes gambling with Choice Energy employees and clients.
NFL employees, including owners, are subject to discipline if it's proved they broke league rules by gambling.
"Javier Loya contacted our office several weeks ago about this matter involving a former employee at his energy company, and we have been in the process of looking into it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday.
The lawsuit was first reported by KRIV-TV. The station reported that Loya filed a lawsuit in 2005 against nine of his energy brokers, claiming breach of contract. Loya alleged that the brokers worked for his competitors.
The brokers filed a countersuit against Choice Energy, claiming they were forced to resign because of a hostile work environment and that the company owed them commissions.
