Default Colts Sign QB Shaun King

INDIANAPOLIS (June 2, 2006) -- Quarterback Shaun King, a starter at Tampa Bay when Tony Dungy was the coach there, signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts.

King, who did not play in the NFL last season, joined the Detroit Lions in March and was released on Wednesday. He will try to make the Colts as Peyton Manning's backup.

"We just think Shaun will add to our quarterback situation," said Dungy, now the Colts' coach. "He's an experienced guy who has played in a lot of big games and won. I think he's going to be a good fit for our system and what we do."

King, a second-round draft choice by Tampa Bay in 1999, has started 24 of 34 career games and has passed for 4,566 yards and 27 touchdowns.

"Both years he started for us (in Tampa Bay), we went to the playoffs and he was a big reason why," Dungy said.

Very good signing if he is still in football shape. He is a solid back-up and high character guy. He won't amaze you with his talent, but he can play solid ball and knows how to run an offense.

i agree... the only reason he got released by the Lions is because they already have like 3 qbs that they like... i think he will be a great backup to Peyton Manning..

If I was an Indy fan I would feel better with King than Sorgi. I can't see any down side to this, as I'm sure they can release him with no real cap hit.

sorgi is the backup and king is third, sorgi has been there and knows the offense inside and out and the players, king is a fool with some ability, it will take him at least one year to learn that offense enough to unseed sorgi as the number 2

Agreed, but Colts made a good move by picking him up. I think the Colts offensive system will actually make King better though.
