Default Colts' DT Simon Fails Physical, Faces Possible Release

Quote:
Monday, July 30, 2007

After sub-par performances during the offseason's mini camps, DT Corey Simon has failed the team's physical today.

Simon has been facing on-and-off illnesses throughout the past month or so and ESPN analysts report Simon is facing a possible team release.

If released, backup DT's Dan Klecko and Raheem Brock would compete for the starting NT spot next to Anthony McFarland.

Simon recorded 25 tackles and 9 assists his 1st year as a Colt, but faced knee injuries and an on-going "illness" and missed the entire 2006-07 Season.

Prior to this year's training camp, Simon has refused to announce his whereabouts and Tony Dungy has refused to comment.

wouldnt be a bad move to cut him, he makes like 5 Mil this year... they need cap room to re-sign Sanders next year

Colts release Corey Simon
Saturday, August 04, 2007

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) The Indianapolis Colts released former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon on Saturday.

Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday that he expected to release the tackle within the next few days.

Simon did not pass his physical last weekend. He was expected to report to camp on time July 29 but was never seen at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

Simon did not play last year during the Colts' Super Bowl-winning season and was eventually placed on the non-football illness/injury list with an undisclosed ailment.

The Colts also waived rookie wide receiver Michael DePriest and placed tight end Mike Seidman on injured reserve with a knee injury. Seidman was signed this past spring after five seasons with Carolina.

Kind of a bad move, they need him to help their awful defense against the run to push the middle, because they have good speed to the outside, not a good move IMO.

he helped them be a solid defense when he first got there and they won a few games on defense, I remember a jax game where they won like 9-3 on the defense and there were a few others, Simon was a good DT, just seemingly a health risk at this point.
