Are they really as good as their record makes them look or is it that the other teams just blow? There are so many teams such as Dallas, and Eagles who are performing far worse than they are capable. It makes me wonder if the Colts are the only ones playing at an "average" level.

You're right that no one is really playing up to snuff this season. The Eagles, Jets, and Packers have especially been major disappointments. The Colts are still the best all-around team this year though. They spent the offseason beefing up their defense and they have taken a cue from the Patriots in building a team that is decent in all areas, rather than being very strong on some and weaker on others. Are they as good as their record? Probably not, but they're still the best in the NFL at the moment.

I don't think its an off year, but rather just a result of parity in the NFL. With the salary cap, and the player's salaries continuing to rise, you simply can not have more than a couple stars on a team without compltely sacrificing other positions. The Colts currently are good because they have more than a few stars, who signed contracts at less than "star level" value. Some of the players are playing well past their expectations, and that is paying off for the Colts. I wouldn't say the level of the play has gone down from last year, or any other year, but rather it is just more difficult to put together a good team year in and year out.

They may look slightly better on paper, at the moment, but as a dedicated Indy fan (and native) they are an awesome athletic team.

They deserve all the recognition they are getting. They're playing great right now.
