Damn sounds kinda desperate if you ask me. 30 million for just the sb. He's a very good DE, but just that much for somthing like that... Just doesn't seem right.

Colts actually helped themselves with this deal by creating more Cap space.

Also I don't think the Colts give a **** about what other teams have to pay their players.
[/b]

Any deal new deal would of cost them less cap space this year, but it will be costing them a ton in the future. He pretty much got QB money, I think he's getting more than Tom Brady.

And I never said the Colts cared, why would they? All they care about is their own team depending on how it's structured it could end up limiting them to.

Completely agree.

The Colts are ludicrous to give Freeny that kind of contract and money.
A foolish move.

Colts did what they needed to do to keep the guy. I mean the guy avgs around 40 tackles, 11 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 30-40 QB pressures per season. You pay for production, and there aren't many that have produced more at that spot over the past 5 seasons.

It is pretty funny to see people talk about how bad Freeney is against the run, but simply put Freeney doesn't have that responsibility very often in the Tampa 2. Freeney is required to either be in the backfield after the QB on pass plays, or tying up his guy on running plays so the LBs and/or DB playing run support can fill and make the stop. I mean really, please start naming 20 defensive ends that going to be as good or a better fit in the Tampa 2 than Freeney. A couple 3 maybe, and 2 of them are artificially enhanced.

Also by this time next year Dwight won't even be top 5 in contracts on the defensive side of the ball, much less overall. He didn't set the ceiling, he set the floor, and that is what everybody is whining about. Everybody whined when we signed Manning to top bucks, same with Harrison and Wayne, and now with Freeney. These "horrible" contracts and our "horrible" personnel moves of giving up Marshall Faulk and Edge and Marcus Washington and David Thornton and Mike Peterson were going to ruin us. Instead, we have the best win/loss record of any team in the NFL since 1999, an awesome new stadium to open in 2008, and a Lombardi trophy in the case.

You guys can all talk about how horrible these moves are, and I will continue to have faith in our front office. It has worked for me so far.

So are we. LOL

We overpaid for Manning.
We overpaid for Harrison.
We overpaid for Wayne.
We overpaid for Freeney.

And all we got was this lousy trophy and these ugly rings.

BWAH HAHA!

Yeah I mean I think the Colts did actually overpay for Freeney but it is hard to argue against what they are doing after getting the trophy last year. In a couple years this contract might look pretty average.

As long as the Colts continue to draft well and get compensated for losing free agents, they'll be fine. They sign the key/star players long-term and let the average to above average players walk.

It's all contingent on good drafts. This year's looks good on paper. We'll see.
