Default Scott leaves Colts, joins Titans

Scott leaves Colts, joins Titans
By Mike Chappell

The I-65 pipeline linking Indianapolis and Nashville, Tenn., has delivered another former Colt to the Titans' roster.

Jake Scott, the Colts' starting right guard since 2004 and an unrestricted free agent, signed a four-year contract worth approximately $20 million with the AFC South rival Titans on Monday.

"It's a great opportunity,'' said Ken Staninger, Scott's agent. "If you're going to leave Indy, Jake is happy he's going to a place like Tennessee.''

Scott, 26, is the latest Colt to relocate to the team's division rival. In previous seasons, the Titans signed cornerback Nick Harper, linebackers David Thornton and Gilbert Gardner, tight end Ben Hartsock and defensive tackle Corey Simon. Thornton and Harper remain with the Titans.

Scott was the Colts' fifth-round draft pick in 2004. He started 65 games, including eight in the postseason. His departure was virtually assured when the team re-signed Ryan Lilja, the starting left guard and another of the team's unrestricted free agents, to a five-year, $20 million contract in February. Either Charlie Johnson or Dylan Gandy will likely replace Scott as starter on the right side.

The Titans invested in Scott to reinforce the interior of their offensive line. They lost one starting guard when Jacob Bell, an unrestricted free agent, signed with St. Louis. Their other starting guard, Benji Olsen, is considering retirement.

That is a huge signing right there and I was wondering why he hadn't signed yet and comparable to other deals, that is a small one. I wonder how much $$$ is guaranteed. I think that is a better signing than Faneca.
