Leftwich hasn't asked for trade

So says his agent, who expects his client to play for the Jaguars this fall.
By VITO STELLINO, The Times-Union

Byron Leftwich's agent, Tom Condon, said Tuesday that the Jaguars quarterback hasn't asked for a trade, and he expects the four-year NFL veteran to play for the team this fall.

However, Condon said he doesn't know if Leftwich, whom coach Jack Del Rio named the starting quarterback last month, wants to play for the Jaguars or whether he will show up for the start of the team's offseason conditioning program Monday or continue to work out in South Florida.

Leftwich had a difference of opinion with Del Rio in October when the coach benched him after a 27-7 loss to the Houston Texans, even though the quarterback believed he could play on a sore ankle. At one practice, Leftwich threw his shoulder pads to the ground in frustration after being informed that David Garrard would receive all the repetitions in preparation for the Oct. 29 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

When asked if Leftwich wants to remain a Jaguar, Condon said, "This is all really subjective stuff that you'd have to talk to him about."

However, Leftwich has declined all interview requests since he underwent surgery on his ankle Nov. 21, and the Jaguars placed him on season-ending injured reserve Dec. 1.

Of Leftwich, who has one year left on his contract with a $5.2 million base salary, Condon said: "The situation for him isn't any different than for anybody else. He's got a year left on his contract, and your options are to play for your team or you don't. I haven't any reason to believe he wouldn't
