Default Car Kalif Barnes Found Wrecked* Update Cited / Possible Probation Violation

Car Belonging to Jaguars’ Kalif Barnes Found Wrecked - FOX30Online.com
Quote:
The Mercedes registered to Jaguars Kalif Barnes was found crashed into a tree, in a southside neighborhood about a mile from Barnes home.

According to a police report on file at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the car was found just at about 6:30 Saturday morning, crashed into a tree in the Hampton Park development. The driver of the car was gone, and there were no witnesses to the accident. A key to the car was found in the grass nearby.

We have not reached Barnes yet to find out how the car wound up in the accident.

Barnes was stopped by the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office for a traffic violation several months ago. Video tape of the stop released by police showed Barnes questioning the motives of the officer and insulting the people of Jacksonville. Barnes later apologized for the incident.
Looks like Briggs started a trend. If your drunk and wreck your car, and no one sees you, leave.

Ultimate Jaguars Newsroom: Barnes leaves crash scene
Quote:
Jaguars tackle Khalif Barnes drove through a yard and crashed into a tree near his home Saturday morning, then left the accident scene and called Jacksonville police, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

It was Barnes' second driving mishap in less than a year, and police charged him with violating a provision of his July drunken driving probation that forbids him from driving except for work.

Police said Barnes, 25, called just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday and told them about the crash at Hampton Park Boulevard and Mount Ranier Drive. The intersection is near Barnes' home in a gated community off Florida 9A on the Southside.

When officers arrived, they found Barnes' 2007 Mercedes crashed into a tree, and the ignition key nearby in the grass, the report says. They estimated damage to the auto at $10,000.

Police said they went to Barnes' home, but he wasn't there.

"I realize I used poor judgment, and I should have stayed with the car," Barnes told the Times-Union on Monday night. He said he wasn't injured in the accident.

Barnes' attorney, Hank Coxe, said that when the crash occurred, Barnes was en route to the stadium for mandatory treatment for a sprained ankle suffered in the Jaguars' Sept. 23 victory in Denver. Coxe said Barnes dozed off before hitting the tree.

"He returned home, borrowed a car from a relative and went straight to mandatory treatment," Coxe said. "After treatment, he went straight to the Sheriff's Office to get all these issues resolved."

Police cited Barnes for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and not driving for work purposes as required by his probation.

Coxe said he has documentation that the treatment Barnes was driving to was required by the Jaguars.

In July, Barnes pleaded no contest to drunken driving and was sentenced to six months' probation. The sentence included a six-month suspension of his driver's license with the standard provision that he be allowed to drive to and from work.

It will be up to a judge to determine whether he violated probation and should face a tougher sentence.

The sentence sprang from a drunken driving arrest last November, during which Barnes' obscenity-laced rant about racist police and playing in a hick town was recorded by a video camera in the arresting officer's patrol car. Barnes disavowed and apologized for those remarks in July and said they were brought on by the stress of his arrest.

This time, he had nothing but praise for officers handling his case.

"The police were very professional and courteous and treated me with nothing but respect," he told the Times-Union. "I appreciate the way they handled everything."
Lol they must think we are idiots.
