Default Jaguars were 5-4 against top teams

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The Jaguars' 12-6 season ended with a 5-4 record against playoff teams.

Jacksonville defeated Pittsburgh twice (including once in the playoffs), Tampa Bay, San Diego and split with Tennessee. The Jaguars lost to New England (in the playoffs) and twice to Indianapolis.

Over the past four years, the Jaguars (40-24) have the sixth-best record in the NFL.

Moss happy with result

Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, second in the NFL in receiving yards and first in touchdowns, expected a tough game against the Jaguars. He got one, catching only one pass for 14 yards.

Moss said he wasn't surprised, because Jaguars cornerback Brian Williams played with Moss at Minnesota and Jaguars assistant coach Mike Tice was the Vikings' head coach.

"[i] used to go against 'B-Will' [Williams] one-on-one, seven-on-seven, every day," Moss said. "I know what type of guy he is. He's feisty and strong at the line. I kind of felt a certain way of how they were going to play me."

Limited chances

Former Jaguars didn't make much of a contribution in the Patriots' 31-20 victory. But they were hardly needed

Tight end Kyle Brady caught one pass for 12 yards. Like his role with the Jaguars for eight seasons, he was used primarily a blocker. Punter Chris Hanson had one punt for 30 yards.

Where's his Oscar?

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has dated actresses in the past, and he joked that he might be thinking of an acting career in the future after his fake on a third-quarter touchdown.

From the Jaguars' 6, Brady took a snap in the shotgun, faked a running play and threw his other hand up in the air - presumably to fake a bad snap. He then lobbed the ball to Wes Welker for a touchdown.

Some media outlets labeled it a Statue of Liberty play, but that old trick play, in the truest sense, involves the quarterback faking a pass, then handing off the ball on a running play - either around his back or over his shoulder.

"I'm looking for my Academy Award on that play," Brady said. "They bit on the run pretty good, and I just had to drop it over the linebacker."

Record-breaking effort

Jaguars quarterback David Garrard set a single-game franchise postseason record with 278 passing yards and a 66.7 completion percentage against the Patriots.

Garrard also set the franchise single-game postseason record with 22 completions.
