Chiefs Reid’s new five-year deal includes final say on KC personnel

Quote:
Not that this was a great surprise, after the Chiefs hired coach Andy Reid and fired general manager Scott Pioli the same day, but Reid has the run of the place.

Reid’s agent, Bob LaMonte told USA Today’s Jarrett Bell that Reid’s new five-year contract gives Reid control over all football operations.

How that jives with finding a GM remains to be seen. As Florio pointed out last night, the issue of “final say” is a significant one, as it applies to Packers director of football operations John Dorsey.

The Packers could technically block that move unless Dorsey’s contract is up or they choose to release him from it. Getting Tom Heckert’s name on a doorplate is easier, since he’s unemployed.

Of course, none of this is news to those close to Reid, since getting that kind of control over personnel is likely much of what swung him toward the Chiefs.
