Damon Huard has won the Chiefs quarterback competition and will start the regular season opener Sept. 9 against the Texans in Houston.

Coach Herm Edwards seemed to be leaning toward starting Brodie Croyle. But Edwards apparently changed his mind after Croyle's disappointing play in Thursday night's preseason loss to New Orleans.

Huard, because of a sore calf muscle, did not play against the Saints. He did not lead the Chiefs to any touchdowns in either of the first two preseason games, but he had some success last season filling in for Trent Green.

I saw this coming. He's got experience and patience on his side. I would've chosen Croyle though.

Dude Brodie Croyle has been playing horrible in the preseason. This was a good smart choice by the Cheifs. Brodie Croyle is not ready yet. Damon Huard was solid for them last year when he did play so maybe he will do that again. They hope at least.

well when they are 2-4 or 1-5, croyle will be pretty inviting

They will be no better if Brodie Croyle got the start. They would actually probably be worse.

but at least their QB of the future will be playing, which when it comes down to it, is the most important thing
