Breakdown: Observing that his team looked a little fatigued on Day 13 of training camp, Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards instructed his players to remove their shoulder pads half way through Wednesday morning’s full-padded practice. Offensive and defensive units spent more time honing details and walking through techniques together than competing against each other. After practice Edwards compared the AM session to a typical Friday practice during the regular season, but indicated he’d like to see a faster tempo out of his players.
“They’ve been pretty good, but they’re worn out a little bit,” Edwards remarked. “They’re tired. They’ve been hitting in the morning and it’s a physical deal. I anticipated that and that’s why halfway through practice I took the pads off. That was my plan. I knew it was going to happen. I didn’t tell the coaches; I didn’t tell anybody. I think this afternoon we will be flying around and that’s good.”
The squad is scheduled to hit the practice fields again this afternoon for a spiders (flap-jackets and helmets) practice at 3:45 PM.
