Vrabel, Waters show up at Chief's minicamp
Quote:
Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star reports after missing all of the previous offseason workouts, guard Brian Waters and linebacker Mike Vrabel arrived today for the first day of the Chiefs' mandatory minicamp.
Waters skipped all of the Chiefs’ previous practices, all of which before Friday had been considered optional. This weekend’s three-day minicamp is Kansas City’s first mandatory session, and the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement states that absent players can be fined up to $8,000 per day.
The four-time Pro Bowl guard reportedly was soured after his first meeting in March with first-year head coach Todd Haley. According to reports, Waters asked to be traded or released, although general manager Scott Pioli has said that he will not allow players to make or influence personnel moves.
Pioli’s biggest move came in early March, when the Chiefs traded their 2009 second-round draft pick to New England for quarterback Matt Cassel and Vrabel. The 33-year-old outside linebacker, a likely starter in Kansas City’s new 3-4 defensive front, also missed the Chiefs’ previous workouts.
Haley said he had spoken with Vrabel during the past two months and that the coach expected Vrabel and Waters to attend Friday’s practices.
