Don Shula calls Joey Porter’s behavior “outrageous”
Quote:
Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post reports Don Shula saw and heard it all during his 32 seasons as a head coach.
But even the 80-year-old Shula has been taken aback by Joey Porter’s public campaign to severe ties with the Dolphins.
“The Joey Porter thing, I think that’s just outrageous with him coming out like that,” Shula said Wednesday night after he was honored for his leadership and philanthropy by the Tampa-based Moffitt Cancer Center. “He obviously wants out. I’m sure he’ll be accommodated.”
Shula said rifts with players and contract squabbles have existed for a long time, but weren’t as publicized.
He said the Porter thing didn’t have to be.
“That could have been done with him going in and visiting the Dolphin decision-making people and doing it quietly,” Shula said. “But he decided to do it the other way.”
Yeah, but that's a bad quality for your franchise if a player is going to be really loud mouthed when he shouldn't be. Talking trash is good to an extent, wanting get out of an organization should be told to the organization, not the media. They'll hear it soon enough.
