Why exactly?
Not really that big of deal but always wondered why the Dolphins are placed in a division with 3 teams from the northeast that are so far away? New England, NYJ, Bills, and then the Fins way down in south Florida. Why was/is this when they re-aligned the divisions.

You have to maintain rivalries.

The same reason dallas is in the NFC-east, rivalries. hell atlanta used to be NFC-west. that's something to question.

Atlanta??? The whole NFC West wasn't in the west except for the Niners,
St. Louis Rams 2060 miles from the SF
New Orleans Saints 2270 miles from the SF
Atlanta Falcons 2480 miles from the SF
Carolina Panthers 2850 miles from the SF
Carbo.....Dolphin Stadium to Ralph Wilson....only 1365 miles

It's a rivalry thing, though I have no idea why. The NFL allows Dallas and Miami to keep their old rivalries, even though they are not geographically near those rivals. All it does is hurt Dallas and Miami, who get to make the long trips 3 times a year, while their rivals only have to do it once. It really hurts Miami, who is a nortorious terrible cold weather team, as is Tampa Bay. The Bucs were smart enough to get out of the NFC North. I guess Miami missed the boat.

Because when the realignment was propossed, Jones insisted on keeping PHI, NY and WASH in the same division or he would'nt sign off on it. dallas does'nt seem to be complaining.

I cant imagine a Cowboy's rivalry between, the Rams, Seahawks, Cards, and 49ers (well mabey). The Cards were in our division and we had the weakest rivalry with them of our divisional foes. And besides, you know you would miss us if we were gone
