Default Miami Dolphins news 10/20

With Daniels out, Dolphins shuffle DBs

The Dolphins' secondary has been a hub of activity this week with an injury eliminating Travis Daniels from the starting lineup, with coaches shuffling players to fill the void, and with rookie first-round pick Jason Allen getting his first snaps with the first-teamers in the dime package.

It's a busy lead-up to facing quarterback Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Daniels, a starting cornerback nursing a knee injury, won't even play this weekend.

''It's not happening,'' Daniels said Thursday. ``Too bad I can't pick off Favre.''

André Goodman and Will Allen will start at cornerback, but changes loom for when Miami goes to its nickel (five defensive backs) and dime (six defensive backs) coverages.

Default Dolphins rookie Allen itching to play

The clock was winding down in the Dolphins' 16-6 loss to Buffalo in Week 2, and rookie free safety Jason Allen wasn't interested in walking across the field to congratulate Bills starting rookie safeties Donte Whitner and Ko Simpson.

"I'm a sore loser. I ran off the field," said Allen, the overall 16th pick in the 2006 draft who has yet to notch his first tackle, interception or pass deflection while primarily playing on special teams.

Default Culpepper return unknown

Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Thursday that it was still open-ended when quarterback Daunte Culpepper will be ready to play again.

Saban said Culpepper is "sore" from a rehabilitation program designed to accelerate his ongoing recovery from last October's knee surgery. Saban benched Culpepper after four unimpressive starts so he could concentrate on a program designed to improve strength and movement.

Default Favre gets high praise

He met him once.

The time and place as irrelevant as the introduction itself, Dolphins defensive end Kevin Carter certainly can still recall speaking with Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

''Nice guy,'' said Carter, who added with pride that he also recorded his first NFL sack against Favre in 1995. ``Great guy.''

Their meeting came and passed within a few moments. No brotherly bond was developed. No forever friendship established. None necessary.

For Carter -- for so many others that never even have played against Favre -- it's still somehow easy to find some unique way to relate to one of the NFL's all-time best quarterbacks.
