Default Miami Dolphins news 10/23

Lowly Packers cash in miscues

Remember when linebacker Zach Thomas, just a week ago, said the Dolphins were the "worst team in the league" after their loss to the New York Jets?

Obviously he was exaggerating because the Dolphins didn't even have the league's worst record.

Default Dolphins quarter-by-quarter highlights

FIRST QUARTER

• Highlights: Quarterback Joey Harrington's 8-yard pass to wide receiver Marty Booker gave Miami a 7-0 lead. It was the Dolphins' first first-quarter touchdown of the season. Linebacker Channing Crowder had a hand in every tackle (three) on the Packers' first drive of the game.

• Lowlights: Packers quarterback Brett Favre actually recorded a reception (for 0 yards) when he caught his own deflection with 7:51 left in the quarter. Favre then threw the ball out of bounds and received a penalty for an illegal forward pass. The Dolphins' drops and overthrows started early and was a constant theme throughout the game. Harrington's first thrown interception was his fault. It was an easy interception for Brady Poppinga.

Default Packers finally find fun in the South Florida sun

Brett Favre sat on the bench early in the third quarter, dejected that his 34-yard pass to Donald Driver in the corner of the end zone was ruled incomplete.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy challenged the ruling, and Driver swore to his teammates and coaches he caught the ball, but Favre prepared for the worst.

Default Green Bay stars save the day

Quarterback Brett Favre picked up wide receiver Donald Driver and took him for a joy ride on the Green Bay sideline.

It came after a challenge to an incomplete pass call was overturned, giving Favre a 34-yard touchdown pass to Driver, who made a great play between Jason Allen and Renaldo Hill. It gave the Packers a 20-10 lead with 8:51 left in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Dolphins.

Default Favre still has it

The Brett Favre tribute tour made the South Florida swing Sunday. Nothing better than the Miami Dolphins to revive the career of a graying rock star.

Favre, the NFL's reigning silverback (and silver beard), threw two second-half touchdowns Sunday -- inching himself closer to Dan

Marino's career touchdown record -- in the Packers' 34-24 win at Dolphin Stadium.

Default Zach Thomas post-game Q&A

Q: How do you guys get your confidence back after this latest loss?

A: "We were playing well in the first half and we came out [in the second half] and I don't know what happened. Everybody got contaminated and it just rolled from there. We've been playing well on defense all year and then we just flopped in the second half. Brett [Favre] caught fire and they made some plays. We've been stopping the run all day and one play went 70 [yards]. It's just . . . you can't have that. We've got to have more guys on the ball. We've got to have four or five guys on the ball like you see with good teams like the Bears. We can't just have one guy making solo [tackles] all the time."

Default McMichael blames himself

Early in the second quarter: The pass bounces off Randy McMichael's chest and lands in the hands of Green Bay linebacker Nick Barnett.

I could've caught that. ... It came off my pads.

Default The Dolphins' next important date -- 2007 NFL Draft

The Dolphins will play on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve.

The only holiday that matters for this franchise occurs on April 28, 2007, when Nick Saban will choose between such gifts as Brady Quinn, Drew Stanton, Joe Thomas and Justin Blalock.

The Dolphins will play on seven Sundays, one Monday and one Thursday from now through the merciful final Sunday in Indianapolis. The only football days that matter this fall and winter are Saturdays, because those are the days that potential draftees traditionally play.

Default If 1-6 isn't bad enough …

Miami Gardens -- Here's the real problem with Sunday: There's no Plan B. No fallback position in this losing season. Nothing for Nick Saban to do, at 1-6, but try to prop up his roster with lines like, "I'm not angry," and "I'm not frustrated."

In the Green Bay locker room, quarterback Brett Favre was saying how his offense was purposely bland, because three rookies started on the offensive line. "We didn't want to confuse them too much," Favre said.

Three starting rookie linemen! Plus top-pick linebacker A.J. Hawk!
