Default Dolphins to release 7-time Pro Bowler Thomas

Dolphins to release 7-time Pro Bowler Thomas
by Jay Glazer
Updated: February 14, 2008, 12:50 PM

One of the faces of the Miami Dolphins is no longer with the organization.

Miami has informed perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas they will release him Thursday, FOXSports.com has learned.

Thomas, like the rest of the Dolphins, suffered through a miserable 2007 season. He suffered a concussion on the field and injuries in a car accident that limited his play.

After missing several games, the Dolphins finished Thomas' season for him when they placed him on injured reserve in December.

Thomas instantly became a fan favorite his rookie year and went on to become one of the league's most well-known tackling machines.

In the last couple of months, Thomas has told FOXSports.com he thought his release was imminent due to his salary. However, Thomas also said that he is not ready to hang up the cleats.

Thomas played in just five games in 2007, recording 52 tackles and one sack. The Dolphins finished the season with a 1-15 record.

The funny part is that is how the Pats get "younger."

i'm not sure what to think of this move. I mean i get the whole rebuilding idea, but personally i would still want a veteran presence on my team. And yes i don't know Zach Thomas, but he seems like a real professional. I don't think he would be like a cancer or anything like that. But at the same time i have to trust that the Big Tuna knows what he is doing. so like i said i'm not sure what to think.

Former Texas Tech star linebacker Zach Thomas has been released by Miami and has the Cowboys on his short list of possible destinations. According to The Miami Herald, Thomas has the Cowboys, New England, San Diego, and Indianapolis on his wish list.

Rick Herrin contributed to this report.

If that is indeed his short list I think it is strange that all the teams run a 3-4 when most people say he is too small to do that.

I remember back in the day when a good/great player could basically play for that team as long as he wished. Barring injury of course.
