The Dolphins hosted free agent defensive tackle William Joseph, a former first-round pick out of the University of Miami and a Miami Edison High graduate, on Thursday.
Joseph spent the last five seasons with the Giants after they took him 25th overall in the 2003 draft, starting only 17 of 55 games. What were originally called ''back spasms'' kept him out of the Giants lineup early in the season. Eventually, his back problems got him placed on injured reserve without playing a game in the Giants Super Bowl season.
The Dolphins have spent most of their time and money in free agency shoring up a defense that was 30th or worse in five different defensive categories.
